W6 “The Twist”

I chose to write about the Twist this week. It is honestly such a standard, this song is so good! It’s super iconic, it’s beat and rhythm just make you wanna get up and start dancing! I love how this song has appeared lots in different movies, Especially in the old Spider-Man with Toby Maguire. Where Harry and Mary Jane are cooking and start dancing to this song. #riptobey… but honestly this song is so catchy and I love how it really started the individualized dancing. It became such a huge influence to music going forward and really started that era off with a bang. What surprises me is Chubby Checkers voice, honestly it’s different than most. It’s got such an edge yet it’s smooth. Really quite yet it is super distinct, I love his name too!  Honestly the Twist really is that dance that started off all the other dances moving forward. There was different dances that got big but I feel like that kinda died off over time. The Twist really picked that back up again and it’s carried un...

W5 "Nature Boy"

Image
Nature Boy honestly surprised me a lot. I love the crooning of Nat "King'' Cole. His voice is super soothing and really paints a great picture as he is singing this story. I love the instrumental in the background especially when the piano plays through the verse as well. The violin really sets an almost suspicious and creepy tune, yet the song is very soothing. It's crazy to me that a song this catchy and popular. It's crazy to take into account the history of Nat "King'' Cole, being one of the first African- Americans to host a television series. He also was an actor and performed on Broadway! So cool that at that time with discrimination you see a man like Nat "King" Cole come on top! I love the influence he had on Jazz moving forward. As well as R&B and crooning too. It's cool to see all the different genres of music combine and complement each other in one way or another, and now the music we have today! People take things and id...

W4 "In the Mood"

I listened to "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller and his orchestra. I chose to write about this song because I actually played this in jazz band when I was in middle school! I played the drums in this song and its so upbeat and energetic, fun opportunities to improvise. One thing that really stands out to me is the fake pauses that they do. It almost stops then they quietly build back up again. It really brings a twist on to this same rhythm, they add lot of extra things to make it not so repetitive. It surprises me how catchy it is and that even with the same rhythm it doesn't get too old. It's way cool that this song has really become so popular and used lots in movies. I love the pattern the drums bring in with a nice swing, and the saxophone in this song really stands out too! I think it is way cool to see instrumentals back in the day by these big bands be big hits! The creativity and emotions that these song bring in with different instruments taking lead. It's...
